Eforcity has the USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA Converter Cable for $14 - $3 off with coupon code EFWS010447 = $11 with free shipping. Convert an extra hard drive into an external storage unit, though be careful about dropping it.

any reviews on this? will it work without issues? i bought a USB to paralle cable for a printer and it never worked properly.

upon questions a guy a my local micro center, they said to buy a PCI card opposed to using a cable since it's much more stable.

(did my post make sense?) not to me...

I got this 'when it was $9 shipped' and it works well. I don't think this would be good for a 'full time' setup, but handy for temporary use. The power connector is of cheap design but it does work.

Why cant they make these with any quality whatsoever? All i've ever had with these is problems... Shitty power adapters, brittle cords... Even if you use them once a month, you're nervous each time you go to use it that you'll be screwed

    If you want something solid:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812161002

I have this for almost 2 years and do use it often enough (helping folks recover their data) to say that it is worth the extra bucks.

I got 2 of them and use 1 of them full time, works great! Hooked up a Hitachi 2TB drive and pushed 1.6TB worth of data to it straight, no problems.
