Meritline has the IDE to SATA or SATA to IDE Adapter for $3.49 with free shipping. Compliant with serial ATA specification, One 4pin power connector, converts serial ATA to parallel ATA.
ordered it. worked a couple of times and then quit working. idea is nice to convert ide hdd for sata use (internally or externally), but wouldn't rely on it.
I bought a couple of these from Meritline a few months ago. Shipped from Hong Kong and took a long time. They're very cheaply made Chinese junk. There was some weird sticky residue all over the electronics from manufacturing. The tiny instructions sheet was a bad Chinese-English translation and not of any real use. Even the SATA cable was cheap. The plastic around the connector breaks at the slightest pressure leaving a loose cable that doesn't make good connection. Never got them to work and threw everything away.
You guys are posting strange results. I too bought a couple from meritline, they both work fine with HDDs. Connectors are soldered, the SATA cable is sufficient quality, instructions totally non-necessary and that connector is just like the ones you find on half the SATA products so be careful, most SATA can't be flexed sideways..
The sticky residue is called flux, a byproduct of soldering processes that can be scrubbed off with a toothbrush and rubbing alchol if you're desperate to get rid of it, but it doesn't hurt anything so long as it's not on the electrical contacts and if you clean it off be sure the board is completely dry before putting it back in the system.
If you can't get it to work try setting my motherboard bios to emulation/compatible mode for the SATA, and different drive jumper setting. Even so, on products this cheap it wouldn't be surprising if there is poor quality control but they aren't a bad risk IMO having 2 out of 2 working.
However the long delay from ordering to delivery from Hong Kong is expected.
junk
Please ellaborate
#1 working junk ? or non-working junk ?
there are 2 prices on the page, i thought the same card works both ways.
