Meritline has the IDE to SATA or SATA to IDE Adapter for $6 - $2 off coupon code MLC400379100134A [Exp 10/3] = $4 with free shipping. Compliant with serial ATA specification, One 4pin power connector, converts sevial ATA to paraller ATA.
of course it is better to have the actual drive, but these can be used for testing old IDE drives on a new SATA computer, making an external SATA drive out of an IDE drive, etc.
i don't know, some reviews at front page of meritline says it doesn't works or people had to reconfigure bios and try something, I am not sure If I want to reconfigure or do something to my new computer, to make old drives work in new pcs'... boy i will be mad it something goes wrong with my computer...
Meritline is the armpit of the net. Generally these work ok, and I agree with #9 BUT- be aware of the clearance and connector positions between the back of the drive and what you intend to connect it to- the linked board sticks out and would probably not fit in a pata drive box/case- there are some where the board is vertical (g the connector accepts pins in a plane perpendicular to the pc board).
I'm still waiting for mine that I ordered when they offered this back in july. I've contacted them a few times and they never responded. Seems like I won't be ordering from meritline again.
do these work well? the sales guy at micro center told me that it's better to get the ide or sata drive as these are sometimes faulty.

I would not use it for something I would run 24/7
From the summary: "converts sevial ATA to paraller ATA."
Those pesky sevial ATA drives! And my pesky motherboard with those paraller ATA connectors!
Maybe Ben's sleep deprived?
What a bunch of crap. You can only buy 1, even without the code. That's the way to satisfy your customers shopping needs. HaHa

I just ordered one of these... I'm not really sure why.
sometimes you have to set bios or sata drive settings for the older sata 1.5 standard or the mobo won't "see" it.
Out of stock.
Try one of these. They're cheaper ($4.75) and work bi-directionally (IDE to SATD or SATA to IDE)...
