Well 60hz is now old technology, so this is just the new price for budget TVs.

Would be great for a second TV in my Den. I will consider this.

Insignia cant be repaired after the warrantee for most problems. Search the AVS forums as to why. I cannot remember. There is no Insignia support like other companies have I suppose. Its a Best Buy Brand.

I've owned two insignia TVs over the years, never had any problem with them. Speakers aren't great, but if that matters to you you probably have a sound system anyway.

What's the lifespan of the LCD sets with fluorescent backlights? Are the LED versions worth the extra $$?

#5 Life span is probably not going to be determined by the light source. Believe it or not it will likely be the capacitors. There are chronic problems these days with bad capacitors like motherboards went through a decade ago. They bloat, leak, and fail. Had a 4 year old DLP set die recently due to this. Sometimes you can replace the caps and be back in business. Unfortunately for me no such luck. TV wasn't worth getting professionally fixed. The problems with my model were so bad there weren't any replacement parts available anymore so my boards would have to be sent to the mfgr to be rebuilt with a 3 month turn around and costs that could easily be more than 1K. This happened 2 months after my extended warranty ran out. I have seen threads on numerous brands with this problem after a few years. Evidently solid state caps cost too much. Hoping my new TV will fare better although I have seen bad threads on this mfgr too. On the LED issue IMHO they are not worth it at this time. They cost much more and have unique problems like flashlighting and halos in addition to the usual LCD issues. Not sure what size you are after but if you can afford the LED back lit I suggest you take a look at the Samsung LN##B750 series. Many say the performance is as good as the LED ones and has fewer picture problems for less money. More than you want to know here:
