I know nothing about netbooks and Atom processors so would anyone have any input if I were to purchase this standard at the $199?

@1 I love this netbook. I have had one since last september. Lightweight decent battery life. Perfect for surfing and email and basic computing. Hard drive is really small. The EEE pc netbooks are an improvement over this if you can get one for under 300 dollars.

The keyboard is awfully cramped too, so if you have average sized hands or larger, this could cause you some strain. Go to mydellmini website for information on modding and other questions.

Do note the measly 4GB SSD. The typical $299 deals have a 160GB sata. It'd be cramped to try XP on it later and probably impossible w/ Windows 7 w/o upgrading the hard drive.

I have this one and am enjoying it as well. It is running OSX but still working great. I have a 32GB SSD.

Can you swap out the SSD with a 2.5" SATA HHD?

@#5 No. I replaced the 4GB SSD with a 16 SSD Half Mini PCIe (PATA)

@ #6. Would the cost in upgrading to a 16 SSD be justified or should I wait until a windows 7 netbook is released.

To be honest, I've been holding out on the Asus EEE pc tablet as its "rumored" that the windows 7 version will include multi-touch. Should I hold out for that device?

I'm in need of a very portable and compact device but also need the capability of obtaining signatures like that of a tablet. When I heard of the Asus EEE PC tablet I was very intrigued but have been waiting for windows 7.

    Any advise would be appreciated.

@ #7. It sounds to me like you should get the tablet pc. The mini will not give you the touch screen capability. I've heard Windows 7 (beta) runs well on the mini9. Sorry I can't be more help. I spent $100 in upgrades for my mini: 16GB SSD, 2GB RAM and BT chip.
