    not necessary and these things can actually hurt the machine if their low quality fans die. As long as you give the PS3 some room for ventilation, it'll be fine. Don't ever buy one of these.

    Better option is to buy a 5V unregulated wall wart and wire it to a HQ 60 x 25mm fan you strap to the back with wire ties or sticky backed velcro. Provided you have the attachment materials and buy parts coinciding with other orders the total cost is about $7, and as #1 mentioned you get to have control of the fan quality (and speed) you choose. Most 12V nominally rated fans will run well off a 5V, 250mA or higher rated wall wart (typical peak voltage of unregulated 5V wart is closer to 6V at current low enough to result in a nearly inaudible fan speed).
