Hotness UNHOT
CompUSA.com has the Intel BX80601920 Core i7-920 2.66GHz Socket 1366 Desktop Processor for $270 - $20 off using PayPal + $8 shipping = $258 shipped. This is for those who are looking to build the ultimate system, not for the budget performance crowd. [BizRate]

Good price for recently released processor, however, it needs a new motherboard, and memory (DDR3). I'll wait.

Wow .. it didn't take long for the prices to drop on these things. I agree with #1 though, this isn't a minor upgrade (like anything ever is these days).

So tempting, but like #1 said, you will end up paying close to $700 for just CPU, mobo and RAM.

Dell has a base i7 system for $950.. avoid the rip off upgrades might be a better way to go.

This is still better than going out and buying a core 2 quad core. because this thing does 8 threads. I would get this if I was to build a new comp, only problem I hear about these baby is they run pretty hot, stock watts for these are 130w.

#6 although it can do 8 cores, the 4 cores are from HT.. so basically fake cores..

#9 you are confused. It doesn't have eight cores,it can do 8 threads! it has 4 cores. Do you know 8 threads is better than 4 right? that if a program can handle 8 thread you will have almost double the performance as something running 4? look at a 3d render benchmark.

#9 i jumped the gun.. i somehow read cores instead of thread.. but my point is HT is useless.. if you ask me i would prefer 2 quad cores..

does anybody see any reason for this processor to get even cheaper than this any time soon (like a month or so?) Otherwise, I am thinking I should spend money on it Very Happy

#11 you shouldn't open your mouth anymore about HT. HT is like having another core. It's not like how a P4 handled HT. This one does a better job plus hardly anything supported HT while the p4 was out. Now things are different because many application and OSs supports more than one thread processing. Stop giving people false info.

#15 you are entitled to your opinion, i gave mine.. i have used this processors for benchmarking and when you have HT enabled the performance sucks.. its half of the performance when HT is not enabled.. If HT is like having another core I was right when i said this processor has 8 cores..Smile
