This is a very good price for it, I have not found it any cheaper anywhere else.

This is still a great little processor, though it is only dual core, but very capable.

There are those of us who are overclocking this at over 4GHz on air, and crunching for SETI and such, too.

I suggest that the next CPU up the scale is a better deal: the E8500 at 3.16GHZ is $153 after the same coupon, with Free Shipping. $153 is Best price ever, since a 1-day MicroCenter B&M deal last year (was price mistake?) for $152.

E8500 is practically guaranteed to top 4 GHZ with decent MB and air cooling. This may be the best bang/buck out of the entire Intel CPU family.

#3, I got an E8500 last year at Fry's for $149 with free in-store pickup. I am currently overclocking it to 4.13GHz on air cooling.

#9 - You can see what everyone else chimes in with - but in your case I think I'd go Quad (Q6600).

I want Quad prices to go down dramatically.

    C'mon Ben, make it happen!

#12: Right now you can buy the AMD X3 Phenom II on newegg for around $125. Unlock the 4th core, and you've got a nice quadcore for less than the price of this dual core.

Plus, the phenom II's can hit OC's of 3.7ghz on good air cooling.

#14: yes, the Core2 architecture is derived from Pentium 3. That's not a bad thing, the P3 architecture wan't bad, it certainly was better than the P4 architecture that they followed it up with.

However, because they kind of tacked 64 bit and multi core support on, it's not as well designed for being multicore and 64 bit as, say, AMD's CPU's. Not to say that it's slower than AMD, but it would be nice if Intel an architecture designed from the ground up to be multicore and 64 bit.

Of course, that matters little to the end user.
