NewEgg.com has the Intel Core 2 Duo Wolfdale E8400 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor for $170 with free shipping. This is a retail boxed CPU with Heatsink and Fan included. People are overclocking this thing to 3.6GHz with just air cooling & a good aftermarket heat sink. Buy.com has the E8500 3.16GHz CPU for $194. [BizRate]

newegg has the E8500 for $190. I would get the quad-core Q6600 OEM, I hear you can OC it to 6

You're right, #3. I'll go there after work.

A great processor. I have the E3110 which is just this chip rebadged as a Xeon in my machine right now. Runs everything I've thrown at it just fine. Overclocks well according to reviews but I haven't bothered with mine as everything seems to run just fine at 3GHz.

Pretty good processor. But I think investing in a Yorkfield is a better choice.
