NewEgg.com has the Intel Core 2 Duo Wolfdale E8400 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor for $190 with free shipping. This is a retail boxed CPU with Heatsink and Fan included. People are overclocking this thing to 3.6GHz with just air cooling & a good aftermarket heat sink.

Will not run on my MSI P6N SLI Platinum even with latest BIOS and increased voltages so I have decided to sell mine on eBay as I am not convinced there is a solution from MSI.

Damn you egg... why did you have to drop the price? Now I can't decide between the e8400 or the q6600.

Right now Dual-core will almost always beat out Quad-core CPUs in gaming. Most games don't use more than 2 cores (if that) right now. So if your just playing games you're better off getting a faster speed of Dual-core for the same money as a slower clocked Quad.

As for this specific chip, it's a great cpu at the lowest price I've seen it. Runs just fine on a GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L once you flash the bios.

Well, I have an e8400 for games and a q6600 for my Solaris box. I could change, but I like them how they are.

I personally wouldn't use the OEM box cooler that came with the e8400, but the one that came with the q6600 isn't too bad...

#2, I have an E8400 in use with my MSI P6N SLI Platinum with bios v. 6 It's OC'd to 3.6ghz (vcore and vnb well within spec) and running smoothly. The trick to getting this combo to work for me was to update the bios to 1.6 using an older lga775 proc. Good luck with the sell.

#10 I would really appreciate it if you could let me know the voltage settings in your BIOS as I would love to get my E8400 running rather than sell it at a loss. I am using the V1.6 BIOS and have an E4300 to set it up before switching the processors. Thanks.
