NewEgg.com has the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor for $200 with free shipping. This is an OEM processor so no cooling solution is included.

The stock cooler for these is only about 1" thick, but the older OEM coolers (the ~2.5" thick ones) fit perfectly and they actually increase cooling to the point you can get decent OC'ing temps.

Ben didn't specify the process technology, so nothing to correct. Perhaps you misread 65W and assumed 65nm?

A higher clocked dual core would be better for most games now since few utilizie multicore chips. The games soon to come will be favoring the quad cores and eventually 128 core chips.

#5, What do you want to compare? It depends on how the game program has been written usually software doesn't get updated as fast as new processors with new technology come out. Moore's law was only for processors and not for software. So more cores doesn't always mean more processing power. Usually there is an increase of only 33% processing power from single core to dual core. So roughly it means 2.4 GHz single core processor performs as good as 1.8GHz Dual core or in some cases may be even better because programs were more efficiently written for single core processor.

45nm, nice! No wonder this price is higher than the quad core Intel which was also a good deal.

Anyone know of a stable MB for this? One that supports the
    45nm technology.

    Thanks

    P35, X48... there's a ton. I'd go with Intel for a MOBO
