NewEgg.com has the Intel Core 2 Duo Wolfdale E8400 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor for $200 with free shipping. This is a retail boxed CPU with Heatsink and Fan included. People are overclocking this thing to 3.6GHz with just air cooling & a good aftermarket heat sink.

To 3.6GHz? This thing is getting overclocked to 4+ GHz with air and a good aftermarket heat sink.

Water coolers are pulling 1.6+ GHz overclocks out of this CPU.

I got mine a while ago when Buy.com had it for $200 and it sold out within hours. Nice processor, great overclockability, screaming fast. Get it.

A great processor and a good price if you can get it before it sells out.

Unfortunately my (and many, many others) MSI P6N Platinum motherboard will not post with the E8400. Tried latest BIOS and increased voltages but still no post. MSI insist there are no problems so it's either selling it on eBay at a loss or buying a new EVGA motherboard which is 100% compatable.
So check that my motherboard is OK with Wolfdale before taking the plunge.

Why anyone would buy this when you can get a 3.33GHz processor in the deal above for ~10% of the cost is beyond me.

You've got to be kidding comparing a Celeron to a Core 2 Duo.

I've got this proc and the MSI P6N Platinum mobo like #3 mentioned, and I had some problems, but finally fixed everything.

My P6N came with bios version 1.4, and it recognized the proc. When I tried to update bios to 1.5, something went wrong, and it no longer recognized it. I sent the board back, and received another 1.4 board. Left it at 1.4 and was able to OC the proc to 6 When I tried to OC to 4, I had to reset the bios on the board, and the same thing happened. I decided to take an older 775 single core proc, and put it in there. It was recognized, and I updated the bios to the latest 1.6 version (fully compatible with E8400). Popped my E8400 back in and viola. Easy.

I just bought one of these... it runs. I'd would have spent less on the 8300 or the 8200... but I couldn't find them in stock anywhere at a cheaper price. Also... when are we going to start seeing those 50% discounts on the the intel processors?

Either #15 works for yagear.com or is just a complete fhag. Let me get this straight - you've already spent all the time buying all the parts for a computer, but don't have enough time to put it together yourself? What?! It takes all of 30 minutes, possibly 1 hour, to put the components together yourself.

If you are paying $80 to have someone put your parts together for you then you are a complete rodeo cowboy and might as well just go buy a computer off the shelf at Best Buy. Any money you saved buying the parts yourself is instantly washed away by paying someone $80 to put it together for you.

Please do not ever post here again. In fact, please do Ben and the rest of the world a favor and just kill yourself. Thanks.

I guess there are those who can build the PC and those who don't. I my self prefer build it my self and upgrade my components with the $ I saved but I can't imagine my younger cousin killing him self in a process. I guess you do what you need to and sometimes getting gaming pc preconfigured is the only way for some.

#18, I just got back from burp myself. Now it's your turn to heed my request and go kill yourself. Thanks!
