Mine will not overclock in a EVGA 790i. Sad but true.

Good price on a Fast CPU. Great upgrade if my motherboard will support it.

how does this compare to a low end i7? is it worth it to get this or the i7 920 consider price on the cpu is about the same. I know the only difference is the motherboard and memory is cheaper.

#6, if you already have a mobo that supports this proc, get this one. The price is right and the proformance gains of upgrading your mobo, and ram are not great enough to merit the i7.

If you are building new get the i7, it will last you longer and it does provide a significant imporvement many areas. Worth the slightly increased price as you'll need to buy a mobo and ram anyway.

check out Toms hardware for some reviews.

Do yourself a favor and get a good heatsink, the oem one is a real pain to install.
Also, if you have a Dell with a dual core, this will not work, Dell saves 10 cents by using a cheaper motherboard that will not support the quad.

#10, not worth saving urself $50, in the long run Intel CPU's will run forever, I still have Pentium (1's) processors running for years, they never fail. Stick with Intel on this!

#11, who says that AMD CPUs have a shorter life than Intels?

Life correlates to operating temp more than anything else. Of course if you over volt it all bets are off.

AMD cpus do have a shorter life. There are many reasons why AMDs are so cheap. I have built with tons of different chips. I would skip this and go with the i7. Just levels of tech out there, I went from the 920 D core to the i7.
