    #1 is probably right. The Celeron name has hung on forever and people are gunshy of it.

    If you want a processor that runs as fast as an i7, and is cheaper, then getting the i5 is a good idea (btw, my 920 OC'd to 4ghz on air, so there's no OC adv to the i5). However, if you wnat a fast SYSTEM (DDR3, xfire/sli) stick with the i7. The i5 is for the cheap-freaks that don't know any better.

    Nope, the name "celeron" is being phased out Q4 2009 and being replaced by... what? The i5. "When 32 nm processors become more common, Intel's existing lines will be eventually phased out except for the Core i7." - wikipedia... It's the replacement for the celeron.
