While this won't have you getting $50 off Z68 mobo's as that on the 2500K only. IDK if I was doing it I'd get the 2500K and then save the $50 on the mobo. The "seat of pants" differance between a 3.4GHz or 3.3GHz isn't worth the $50
Yeah, to me getting $80 off of a processor is better than getting $50 off of a mobo.
Oops forgot this is an i7 vs. i5 so yeah betters a 2500K as long as you do specific tasks that can take advantage of the i7 giving you hyper-threading.
MICROCENTEEEEER!! That was said like Capt. Kirk's KHAAAAN!!! I wish I lived by one of these stores. I always get so excited about the deals until I read IN STORE ONLY.
That is a stupid good deal. From what I understand Ivy Bridge isn't going to be that big of a jump from this in gaming if you are using a video card. You're likely going to have to drop at least $100-$200 more for Ivy for similar performance. You could use that extra money to jump up your video card. Dollar for dollar this would be hard to beat especially if you found a z68 on sale.
MC clearing out their stock before Ivy-bridge.
if you wanted an i7 this is def a good buy for perf/dollar

How much you can overclock is the key. I'm OCing my i7-2600K to 4.6 GHz, still stable after 4 months of use.
Incidently, I bought this at $280 4 months ago. $80 price drop is pretty good.

"in store only pricing" is at 279.00
Nice deal, such a dilema. Buy this or wait a few weeks for MC to have a deal on a Ivy Bridge+Z77 motherboard combo
Like CINEBENCH R10 OpenGL, XVid video encoding-multithreaded, or scientific, engineering, statistical and computer-aided design programs where Sandra Whetstone has a clear advantage.

If going for gaming machine and knowning almost no games will take advantage of more than 3 threads, that $50 is truly saved and can go to a better gaming card, which holds more gains than shear CPU power.

Alas, no microcenter.com stores in NC.
