Good deal. Better performance, similar power usage, and lower price compare to Phenom II.

    In store pickup ONLY.

I live about 5 hours from the closest MicroCenter and tried ordering the $185 Q9300 a month or so ago. It said in-store pickup only but I figured I'd order and pay for it, and then ask my brother, who lives 10 minutes from the store, to pick it up for me. No go on that idea--the person who ordered the item needs to show up with a photo ID and the credit card used to order the item--no having a friend or family member pick it up for you.

Fortunately my brother owed me some money so I got him to go buy the CPU for me and ship it to me. Microcenter automatically cancelled my first order after a couple of business days of the item not being picked up.

Cliffs Notes: If you or a helpful friend don't live near Microcenter, forget about getting in on this deal.

the reason why is there still a lot of folks out there with a good older mobo that does not support the latest and greatest. the cost to performance ratio to get a newer mobo/cpu is just not worth it. you might as well wait until the i7 drops in price or wait until AMD comes out with something better and then take the jump.

Same socket the q6600 that came out ages ago at 2.4ghz has been around 190ish for a long time while every other quad core on the same LGA775 has had much faster price drops. People are paying more for the older q6600 than the newer q9400. Is the Q6600 a better overclocker or what?

Q6600 can be easily OCed to 3+Ghz, many report 3.6Ghz, due to its high multiplier. You can just use cheap DDR2 to achieve that without stressing MB/RAM a lot.

Decent price and good chip, but with the i7 chip out this is like buying a celeron.

Buy a Core i7, motherboard, and DDR3 RAM and you will be bust.

i can vouch for the q6600 running stable and under 60C at full load OCed to 3.0GHz (333 multiplier) on Air cooling.
