Hotness UNHOT
Update #4 [11/21]: We are aware there are still issues with IE8 and are working hard to correct it.

Update #3 [11/19]: The issue with the scroll bar locking up was isolated to Internet Explorer 8. Please let us know if you continue to experience this issue and also leave the browser version you are using in the comments or via email. Thanks!

Update #2 [11/11]: We hear your comments re: the category list. For now, you can also use the top nav bar dropdown menu or the page filter to search categories. We'll continue to make adjustments based on your feedback to provide the best user experience.

Update [11/10]: Thank you for the feedback so far! To address a couple comments:
  • You can filter by "Hotness" using the "Sort By" drop-down menu just above the newest deal at the top of the homepage.
  • A lot of changes have been made behind the curtain to help the site load faster. We know that has been an issue in the past, and we will continue to monitor it.
* * *

Starting today, some of you will get a chance to see the second phase of the Ben's Bargains site redesign with a cleaner layout and new features, including:

  • A weekly Top 10 list of our most active and repped users
  • A recap of the best deals called "Deals You Might've Missed"
  • Enhanced filter functionality to zero in on what you're looking for

For those of you who do see the new version, please let us know what you think in the comments below. Here's a preview.

To celebrate our shiny new look, we'll be giving away some very cool prizes starting next week! And as we approach the holiday season, we're as committed as ever to finding the lowest prices and best deals online. So tell all your friends and stay tuned to this page!

Some have claimed it was Facebook integration, their server being too slow. Here is a workaround for that -

Finally got pushed over to the new format. . ouch

Got to agree... sloooowwww, and sluggish for me also. When I scroll down though the deals it just goes 3-4 down then stops, scroll again 3-4 stops. Drop downs act lethargic and delayed.
      Rolling Eyes

EDIT Today it appears the slow sluggish went away, seem to me it went away after beingdown yesterday about the time you add the Giveaway.

Site looks great and is loading better now since the change. The only thing I miss the the PC Builder link from the old layout unless I'm looking in the wrong place.

It has been moved, is now at the bottom of the page, under the last/right-most column "About", 4th link down is "PC Builder",

      Way too much white space.

What happened to the KISS (keep it Simple S)

I like the old one. New one is way to slow.

It's not as dense as the old layout, which already required a lot of scrolling. I'd say it's gone backward.

People come here mostly to look for something specific. While it is nice to see the Categories back, it still takes an extra click to get where you want to go because you only show the Top Categories. Why not bring the full list of Categories back and just make Deals You Might Have Missed an option button. I really, really, really do not care what I might have missed because if I go to the category I am looking for I will find it anyway, and it only takes more time to load. Basically, you are wasting my time with this option.

I really like the new site...my only complaint is that I liked the amount of items on the front page before. I knew that page 1 contained approximately the deals around the web for that day, so I didn't have to wonder if I had missed any during the course of a day, I just checked the first page. Ultimately it would be awesome if there were a way to look at the items found on specific days, because some days I don't look so to be able to go to those days and see if I missed anything would be nice. Overall the changes seem effective and good to me.

      Ben and team,

The site loads much more slowly. Please follow Googles lead by building link rich fast loading websites. Thank you in advance.

I would prefer the pictures of the items be along the left side of the page which would make viewing them easier by further separating from the far right column pictures. with pictures side by side on the right, it makes the page more cluttered looking.

Also, when making a simple edit to an existing post, you should get rid of the "can't post this so quickly to a previous post" pause. I realize it is there to prevent mass or automated postings, but that mandatory pause should not be there for exiting posts. Yah I know, I could use the preview function. But that is another required step for every post. Why task the user? Correcting the requirement would be more user friendly.

Didn't like it at first, but I think the interface actually looks very clean. Only suggestion is to widen the product window.

I used to like the simple version as opposed to all the "ads" that are floating around.

I hardly ever come here since the last so called "update", now it's even worse. Pages are WAY too slow loading even with a fast PC and connection.

Have you tried the back button from the discussions? It takes 30-60 seconds with a 16 Mbps connection.

There are too many other deal sites that are MUCH faster to look through than how long it takes to browse this one.
      Major thumbs down.

Your site has become very painful to navigate. It takes a long time to load because of your recent changes. I have been using your site daily and made lots of purchases. There are many sites like this, but I chose this one because it was simple, clear, and fast to navigate. Now those advantages have disappeared because you've chosen to become just another site full of junk. It is time to go elsewhere.

I commented during the preview that I thought reducing the site to two columns was the only thing about Ben's Bargains that I haven't liked in the past 7 - 8 years (since I became a regular visitor that is). It's not bad, but visually, two columns looks unbalanced if they're not identical in width (or very close to it), but this is a very minor design point.

Ben's is a GREAT site. I love it. I really like the new BB logo and, somehow, the menu bar looks slightly different & better (a bit taller?). The "Deals you might have missed" and "Most discussed" sections are great! The tall page-end (bottom row with mission statements and 5 column site map directory) is excellent! . The Top Merchants section is interesting, but the Top Users section seems a misfit (do you really need one?) and I 'dguess it's unrepresentative of your average user. I could be wrong, but I think the lion's share of your visitors never even register much less sign-in. I virtually never sign-in and I only registered about a year ago. I average at least a visit per day and make purchases via Ben's all the time (a couple of thousand bucks in the past two years, probably 700/yr over the past 7+years).

Please add the following to your site. (1) the prior day's visitor totals--those who signed-in and not signed-in. (2) a weekly multiple choice check-box survey question about...whatever! and (3) the tallied answers to the prior weekly question each with its percentage of total vote. Also, I suggest you start calling us subscribers and send us a daily email alert like Newegg does...maybe call it "Ben's Bulletin". Ben's....great site!
