Hotness UNHOT
Update #4 [11/21]: We are aware there are still issues with IE8 and are working hard to correct it.

Update #3 [11/19]: The issue with the scroll bar locking up was isolated to Internet Explorer 8. Please let us know if you continue to experience this issue and also leave the browser version you are using in the comments or via email. Thanks!

Update #2 [11/11]: We hear your comments re: the category list. For now, you can also use the top nav bar dropdown menu or the page filter to search categories. We'll continue to make adjustments based on your feedback to provide the best user experience.

Update [11/10]: Thank you for the feedback so far! To address a couple comments:
  • You can filter by "Hotness" using the "Sort By" drop-down menu just above the newest deal at the top of the homepage.
  • A lot of changes have been made behind the curtain to help the site load faster. We know that has been an issue in the past, and we will continue to monitor it.
* * *

Starting today, some of you will get a chance to see the second phase of the Ben's Bargains site redesign with a cleaner layout and new features, including:

  • A weekly Top 10 list of our most active and repped users
  • A recap of the best deals called "Deals You Might've Missed"
  • Enhanced filter functionality to zero in on what you're looking for

For those of you who do see the new version, please let us know what you think in the comments below. Here's a preview.

To celebrate our shiny new look, we'll be giving away some very cool prizes starting next week! And as we approach the holiday season, we're as committed as ever to finding the lowest prices and best deals online. So tell all your friends and stay tuned to this page!

I don't care about new design, just as I did not care about the old ones.

What I do care about is that BB becomes less and less useful - and big part of it because of staff negligence.

Expired deals are not getting marked in time as expired, out of stock deals are not getting marked as such in time, plain change of price deals are not followed, et cetera, et cetera.

I guess that's why less people use BB now. Oh, and less fun, too.

Hi pkn, we encourage members to report deals expired, out of stock, or changed in price. Writing it in the deal topic, while appreciated, is not the same. A lot of the time it's anyone's guess when a product sells out or a price changes, especially on Amazon so the sooner we know the sooner it can be updated.

A few things that might have caused a drop in member posting include deals getting harder to come by since the '08 recession started, people having less disposible income to spend, and trolls driving away people. That's the flip side of "less fun", everyone has their own idea about what the site ought to be like. The site is what you make it, the main thing that was limited was personal attacks or comments posted for no purpose other than to cause offense.

However, we broke a record last fall for most members online since 2006, there were prize giveaways going on but there have been for years so it could just be that there is less trolling and arguing now.

      Hi.
Just checked - can not find any "report" button on deal pages. What do you mean by "report" if it's not writing in the topic?

      >A few things that might have caused a drop in member posting include deals getting harder to come by since the '08 recession started, people having less disposible income to spend,

Beautiful logic. People get less interested in bargains 'cause of less disposable income to spend. Yeah, right.

      >and trolls driving away people.

On BB, trolls had always driven people in, not out. Believe me. That is (was) (big) part of the fun.

      >However, we broke a record last fall for most members online since 2006

Congratulations. But you still have a lot of misrepresented deals.

You can send an email to ben@bensbargains.net or use the Contact Ben page linked from the bottom of the homepage(s), http://bensbargains.net/contact/

I will forward on a request on your behalf to add a deal report feature.

Interest + money = action. What is known without speculation is that US consumer spending is down significantly from pre-2008 levels.

Edit: Post shortened to get rid of coding bugs that appear when posts are truncated.

That might work. "Sending email" would not.

Get rid of the Ben's cred. It was a decent idea, but the trolls have come in and ruined it. Nobody wants to open a thread and see all the comments given negative cred by a person who wants to see their name on the homepage. Some threads have well thought out responses and it has just become silly seeing them given negative cred for no reason. It makes you feel like you are wasting your time being on here at all. I say this having a lot of Ben's cred, so I am not biased by any means.
