#17, take your head out of your a@@. Chances are, you'll sell your 2G or 3G iPhone for MORE than Apple charges you for the 3GS iPhone. This is known as Apple's FREE upgrade program. Do some research.

I can not believe all the crap about Apple, Palm, and Blackberry. The stuff these companies are "adding" and "upgrading" and making the "latest and greatest" improvements, have been in the Windows mobile platform for years. And the beauty of windows mobile is that you can modify and create your on apps or your own ROM for that matter. As a matter of fact, right now (at 9:53 in the morning ET), there are 6000 people logged into the developer forum for HTC phones - where intelligent folks write software for free to add functionality to the WM platform. And no one ever talks about WM! The HTC Touch Pro is available from just about every major US carrier, and all anyone can think of is iPhone.... My memory and battery are exchangeable. I have a 16g chip (which costs $40) and can swap it with another one if I want. I have a spare battery in case I do not have time to charge the phone (or the battery wears out). My resolution is 640x480, not 320x260 like the iPhone. I have a slide out qwerty keyboard, or an onscreen keyboard which I programmed to be configured with the keys I want and where I want them. I could go on and on, but I am sure the iPhone folks have already moved on. I am not saying the iPhone is not a beautiful piece of hardware and software, but it is so limited...

#48 If you ran for President I would vote for you. Its just like Apple getting away with charging 200-300 bucks for an IPOD without FM tuner, swappable battery, Voice Recorder, expandable memory when you can buy a comparable player with all those features and more for $50-100 bucks. Course I guess its just like people paying $100-200 dollars for a pair of jeans when you can get a pair of Levi's for $20-30.

Fools and their money are easily parted.

I have a blackberry, and have used palm devices.. but I still love my ipod touch. The only downside to the iphone is the crappy network they're stuck on, but other than that.. I don't know why so many people hate the iphone?

Going to go w/ the Pre over the G3-S - guess I like the underdog...always hated the touchscreen keyboard - looks like a lot of initial Pre (software) problems are getting fixed with recent upgrade.

#48, you have some very valid points, however, you failed to admit to likely the most important point which is that the iPhone is so easy to use for the mainstream public in comparison to the other smartphones. The software is so intuitive, you barely need an instruction manual, and since everyone buys them, the programming follows the dollars, etc. Looks like apple will win this round and the next few for the time being.

#54,I think you missed somehting that most public this country missed. Advertisment! You will be amazed how much greater influence that advertisments and the product's outlook do to the martket share over the function and user friendly design if you look in to some studies. I'm not saying iPhone is hard to use or something, but there are some phone out there are also easy to use and with a lot of good functions also with FREE apps and upgrades. However, because of Apple's huge input for its Ads war and iPhone's nice outfit attract a lot of eye balls. If people value a product from 1 to 10, iPhone is somewhere around 7 and there is a phone out there is 9, most people will still pay for the good looking one. Its not about the function, not about the easy-to-use, its about who looks better.
