Apple Store has the refurbished iPod classic 80GB Digital Music/Video Player for $169 + $0 shipping = $169 shipped. This is the latest generation iPod with Cover Flow & other dubious improvements. It has an all-metal design, with 30hour(s) battery life in audio mode. Storage for up to 20,000 songs or up to 100 hours of video. [BizRate]

Add Rockbox and it's a good platform. Not the most portable or durable one but having 80 gig on tap is nice. If you don't care about video there are better choices.

Refurb Apples are generally great. I've had a shuffle and a Nano that I sold. I actually picked one of these up yesterday to use with a USA-Spec car CD changer controller I picked up.

#1 this model does not support Rockbox (which only supports 5.5g and below).
