    iRobot is sucks, short battery life and replacement is very expensive.

    I wonder if the motor(s), axles and wheels are robust enough that you could strap an aux battery pack on top without weighing it down too much, though for $305 you shouldn't have to but on the other hand if you're willing to pay that price an aux pack would add little to the total price and you might end up with the longest running robot vac of any model.

    Yes. I ripped the cra p battery apart and built my own in the same case back 7 years ago.

    ^ What's the pack config, cell size and # of cells and/or was it just low quality batteries or did you upgrade to a different battery chemistry?

    I've owned 2 and haven't had any problems. Needed to update the firmware on the first one, was easy. These batteries are very susceptible to overheating issues, it seems. I unplug mine for days/weeks at a time if I'm not going to run it. They are damned convenient to have (if you and ur wifey have an aversion to regular vacuuming). They don't replace the big vac, but you don't have to drag it out as often.
