    At Microcenter the comparable product can be purchased for, get this $1. It is about 6" tall and very compact, but the exact same concept. I gave them out to coworkers for Christmas and they were thrilled. You do have to look for them, and often I've seen them with no indicated price. I bought some about 5 months ago and again at Christmas, so it is not even a sale price.

    Not the same at all. The Gorillapod's legs can be wrapped around just about anything to position and hold your camera on a fence, fencepost, signpost, small tree, etc. for instance; The one from MicroCenter that #2 linked above is just a portable tripod with flexible legs -- not wrap-around legs.

    #6 - they have the DSLR version of the gorillapod. the one advertised here won't be able to take the weight of the SLR.
