    I sent a rebate and they said they never received it, yet would not allow resubmission. $50 was gone. Calling so many times, emailing, asking for supervisor, etc didn't work. sigh ...

    #1, sorry to hear about your bad luck.
    I purchased several KIS/KAV and never had rebate problem with Frys.

    Avast anti-virus, and Comodo firewall (both free) do quite a good job keeping things safe.

    Use some common sense. Don't open attachments from people you don't know. Use a sandbox (like Sandboxie) to visit those sketchy porn sites. Use a NAT in a router to hide behind.
