I had this attached to my laptop, and the lock got stolen,,,,they left the computer. ironic.

Sounds like someone was trying to tell you something about your laptop. Or they were just completely without a clue on the concept of thieving.

I think they would've drove the point home if they actually took his laptop.

Anyway, what's to stop someone from just yanking quite hard to break the plastic anchoring the lock in? Even if it's metal, I doubt the entire laptop is. Something's gonna snap, and one could always part it out.
