In for the 3G. $50 more for a Webkit browser, anytime, anywhere? Plus, it has the same tethering as an iPhone plan costing thousands more!

Uses the Sprint 3G network to deliver, which is not too bad.

#2, it actually uses AT&T's S mobile network and roams on 3G, EDGE and GPRS on GSM networks in other countries. The Kindle 2/US-only version was the last Kindle to use Sprint 3G.

Web browsing on the Kindle works great, but is primarily for basic text sites, such as google, e-mail, and wikipedia. It can't do video, and graphics don't necessarily format correctly on the screen (most websites are configured for computer screens, not book-sized screens.) Also, keep in mind that it's all in black-and-white.

Let me correct myself. This version is wi-fi only. The current 3G version uses AT&T in the US.

If buying only one Kindle, make it a 3G version. I'd buy the wifi version for 2nd or 3rd Kindles within a family. When buying multiple Kindles, price is more important than the convenience of 3G.

Does anyone know if Google Map works ok on on this device (even previous model since I imagine it should work as good or better on the never model).

This could make a good ad-hoc map w/ the 3G model without having to buy a phone w/ data plan. And lightweight browsing on the go with no additional cost for service. All those subscription cost add up over time and people get lulled into spending big bucks without even realizing the true cost over the long term.
