Newegg has the Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive) for $140 - $20 off with coupon code 24HRSALE620C [Exp 6/20] - $30 rebate [Exp 6/21] = $90 with free shipping. Features SandForce SF-2281 controller, and up to 555MB/s read and 510MB/s write speeds.
Thanks for heads up, TS. I ran to NE and read all reviews for this one, no mention of blue screens. A couple of them died quickly, but Kingston watches the NE comments closely and provides a support 800 for peeps with troubles. There was some discussion of the "rebate of death", though.
I think ocz's Been plagued by controller issues since the sata2's.. but if u update keep the firmware updated you shouldn't have any issues.. I own 2 ocz ssds, one of which was the original vertex for about 2 years.. no issues with either one. Just check ur firmware.
This seems to be the fastest drive right now according to PassMark. But for the same price, I just went for the Intel 330 120GB for its reliability. When it comes to storages, I'd rather lose marginal performance for reliability. Maybe down the line, add another 120 for RAID 0.
I'm looking to pick up one or two SSD's in this size range to put into netbooks for the family, but I'll just wait until the price gets to this point without a rebate before I pull the trigger. Regardless of how well they handle and honor their rebates, I'm just not interested in having any company hold onto my money for 6-8 weeks for no good reason.
90 bucks is a good price point for this drive, but not with any strings attached. If you follow the pricing trend, it won't be long before this is the out-of-pocket price.
OCZ vertex, vortex (sp?), ability, agility, apex, octane, talos, Deneva, all in "plus". "extreme" and/or vers. 1-4. OR SandDisk Extreme -- p&p no bluescreens, no tech support needed. Instructions: plug in data and power cables and load Windows. ?s?
Sure, all the new models are better with few bad reviews.. fool me once, fool me twice? That's why vendors need to learn to protect their brand name. Maybe the new ones are fine. You guys go ahead and let me know how it works out for ya. I'll stick with a vendor who understands that it's more important to get it right than to get it sold.
it is fast
can't.... stop.... myself... from.... buying.... to put in my new Asus i7 that came with slowwww HDD.
Since prices are so low you should stick with Intel or Samsung. All the others seem to have a lot of 'blue screen' feedback.

Tell that to the hundreds of reviews on Newegg and OCZ (insert model). There are mostly 5 eggs or 1 eggs.

Screw the rebates.. I've seen em this low, if not a bit cheaper, without a rebate.
