looking for some nice speakers. heard that these are ok but not that good. looked at M-audio AV40's and Logitech z-5500. would like to keep it under $400 or so. any thoughts ??? i play games more than i listen to music.
I was very disappointed by these speakers... boomy and horn tweeters upclose sound ridiculous. The M-Audio look the part, but I have never heard them.
#1 With that kind of budget you could get real speakers, not self powered computer speakers. I use some NHT Super Zeros with a small car amplifier and it sounds amazing. I also added a small 8" sub.
I've had these for about 7 years now. They've held up through many moves and re-arrangements of the office and they sound great. I've been very happy with them and if they ever fail I won't hesitate to buy another set. Good luck.
These are still some of the best speakers. The only pc speakers that sound a touch better are the M-Audio speakers. These sell new for $99.99 at BreastBuy when there on sale over there.
Other than the connectors the satellites are the same used in Klipsch's original Quintet 5.0 satellite system. But you either like the brigh Klipsch sound or you don't.
#1 if you want something special then combine an old used receiver (~$50), a small subwoofer from PE ($150), and a pair of Behringer B2020P ($130pr shipped).
Go w/ the z-2300 if you want moderately priced 2.1 PC speakers. Good sound and powerful bass. I am not an audiophile but they were worth every penny to me.
read-up on the T-amp seems to be good. thanks for all the input. i might just go with a nice 3way bookshelf and an amp. i would like to add a sub also.
I've had these for about 7 years and they're still going strong. I use them on my gaming PC and sometimes use them on a TV that has pretty bad speakers. They fill the room with undistorted powerful sound (10'x12' room -- if you're expecting to fill a larger space with speakers this size/price, you're going to be disappointed no matter what).
You can probably find these on display at a Best Buy and you can hear them for yourself. There is imaging and depth in this setup that i've never heard in a set of PC speakers still to this day.
The only problem I have with these is the 1/8" jack coming out of the speaker can come loose and needs to be wiggled.
I had a set of ProMedia 5.1's. They had a known problem with one of the IC's heating up and melting which produced a buzzing sound when there was no audio going through it. I tried to warrant them with Klipsch, but they were having nothing of it. That, coupled with the fact that I never liked the sound at all (I'm no audiophile, but I know what I like), and I will never buy Klipsch again.
I have the super T amp from PE and it can't push the NHT Super Zeros I mentioned. It works well with some 4ohm Kappas I had laying around, but still muddies the bass a little.
I have these speakers, good sound, decent bass. I also have the Logitech Z-2300 which has a strong bass and clearer sound. I don't like the fact that Klipsch doesn't have a separate volume control to plug in your headphones. Instead its located on the speaker.
if you had the Z-55's in your lineup and you're looking at 2.1's as well, the Z-55's will out-play any 2.1 system (it's 1) I've used my Z-55's with my PS3 optical connection and digital back from the TV and theyre awesome. great bass
Im only looking for PC setup. i dont plan on watching TV or hooking up a game system or any thing other than my PC. i have a nice home theater setup in my livingroom for all that. i have considered the z-5500 cause of the good reviews but dont like the satellites have even thought about replacing them with a nice 3 way set.i like the fact that the z-55 have optical in. but i like the idea of going with studio monitors and a built-in amp or a separate amp for the quality in sound. but would like to keep things simple.. i have tried to find some thing on someone switching the satellites on the z-55 with different speakers but no such luck.. i know some versions have different connectors.

Get a T-Amp and your choice of small monitors and rock out!

I also have these speakers. The sub hits decently but the 2 speakers were not as good as I would expect. I can understand #2's opinion.

#5 -- they're there
I've had the 4.1 Promedia's for 12 years. Best $350 I ever spent!

or the krk rokit 5, i guess i just need to listen to some to see if studio speakers will do.
