    Except, this is not a 'butcher block' cutting board. True butcher block would be end-grain on the cutting surface... the photos show the cutting surface is side-grain, which is less expensive to build.

    It's not a bad cutting board, it's just not a butcher block.

    All true. I have an "end grain" cutting board that has held up remarkably well under steady use. In terms of preferred method of construction, the style shown here won't have the longevity of the other.

    The use of end grain Block also is believed to be less propagating staining and soaking-up stuff when properly oiled.
