Amazon with JR.com has the Konica Minolta A034011 1600W magicolor Color Laser Printer for $80 with free shipping. Features 20ppm monochrome and 5ppm color print speeds and measures 15.6" x 15".
I assume this comes with starter cartridges, maybe 1,000 pages. Generic refills cost ~$130 and the real thing costs $490. Another one where it's cheaper to buy another printer when it's time to refill.
... with the generic carts good for 2500 pages that would mean you have to buy 2.5 printers at a total cost of $200 for 3000 pages, or if you buy the printer then the carts you pay only $183 for 3500 pages... or only $133 total for printer + DIY toner refills.
Id rather pay the extra $17 and not have generic toner (which does not print as good a quality) and have two extra printers standing by when the first one messes up.
^ Your argument is missing a few details, nobody buys an $80 color laser printer for highest quality output, and it's still 3000 pages vs 3500 page difference. Regardless, sure you can spend your money any way you like though if you can't get generic toner to print right then it's usually just a matter of moving an adjustment slider or two in the printer's control panel app.

So what's a good color laser printer with the best cost per page for toner?
#1's math seems pretty odd. If the printer with 1K pg starter carts is $80 and 4 generic carts are $103 ...
