Not heard of this before. Is it for making copies of DVDs? Is it a way to bypass the copy protection?

It has nothing to do w/ copying DVDs or copy protection. It allows you to convert analog sources to digital. You use the ports on the side (composite, s-video, fireware, and audio) as inputs from say a VCR, analog camcorder, etc. The card captures that output into your computer where you can use the included software to edit it, convert it to various digital formats including DVD, etc.

    P. S. I hasten to add, and in case it's not obvious, this product may be unnecessary or redundant. For example, if you want to digitize VCR tapes and you already have a analog-capable (NTSC) TV tuner adapter (PCI/USB), then you already have the means to capture that video (it may even have other input options besides coaxial, such as s-video or composite). Most any TV tuner package will at least be able to record it. However, for the rest (editing, conversion, DVD burning, etc.), you'll probably need to find third-party solutions (shouldn't be too tough, lots of freebies out there). In fact, a high quality TV Tuner may be a better long term solution if you only have a finite number of analog sources to digitize. At least the TV tuner is still usable! What this Kworld product brings to the table is a comprehensive solution saving you all that effort.

Just pulled the trigger on one (for $20, why not) so we'll see how it goes.

Bravo #3 and 4. Using the English language to say something useful. How rare.
