You hook it up to an antenna and get over the air HDTV signals, free of charge.

and over the air HD signals are straight from the TV station, not with some sat/cable intermediary who compresses the hell out of the signal

Does anyone know about how successful these things are in getting channels, clarity, etc.? I've read opinions on a couple other similar products and those weren't so hot. I just don't want to buy this only to find out I get a couple HD and 3 analog stations, all coming in fuzzy. Any comments?

Have we really reached the point where there are people that cannot understand the concept of not paying for television? I think that is one of the seven signs. I better get to church this week

To the above poster: some of us don't have a television. I don't have the space for a TV, nor do I watch enough TV to justify spending a grand on buying a small HDTV. I just have my wide screen laptop in my room.

If I can get HDTV for $40, however, THAT would be a worthwhile investment, especially considering I don't need to get a TiVo or DVR. That's why some people "cannot understand the concept of not paying for television".

To the above poster, what does your post have to do with my post? Because you do not have a TV, you should still be able to understand the basic concept of free over the air television. I will give you a hint if you still don't get it, it is very much like the free over the air radio signals you get on your radio, you do have a radio you technology inept piece of crap, don't you? If you don't have enough room, move out of your parent's house and get a place of your own you lazy piece of baconnaise!

#5 Go to http://www.antennaweb.org/ to see what kind of reception you will get. I live in Boston and receive very good quality HDTV over the air for ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS & Fox. I'm sure that if you live in a more rural area, you are not going to get as good reception.

Having said that, I have a similar USB stick by Pinnacle that I purchased from woot.com. It works great, but you need a pretty up to date PC and lots of memory for this to work properly. I am not seeing any specs on the buy.com site, which is too bad. The Pinnacle stick (which I assume is similar) requires:

    # Windows® XP with SP2 or Windows Vista (32 bit)
    # Intel Pentium 4 2.4 GHz, Pentium M 1.3 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 processor (for HDTV reception, a Pentium D or Pentium Dual Core or equivalent AMD Athlon 64 processor is recommended)
    # RAM: Windows XP - 256MB RAM (512MB recommended)
    Windows Vista - 512 MB (1GB recommended)
    # DirectX® 9 or higher compatible graphics card
    # DirectX 9 or higher compatible sound card
    # 1 GB of disk space to install software (20 GB recommended for TV recording)
    # USB 2.0 port
    # DVD-ROM drive to install software

Finally, these types of USB sticks go on sale at Best Buy all the time for around $70. If you're not sure, why not buy it there and know that you can easily return it if it doesn't work for you?

KWorld did pay their rebates. I received my $45 rebate check from them last week for a TV capture card I bought from Newegg a couple of months ago.

well sure.. you can get a small handful of OTA channels (assuming you have an hd antenna).. but i hardly call that getting TV without paying for service.. but i guess i dont believe 3-5 channels really counts for 'television service'.

Lol...you have no clue. Evidently, someone has some serious problems. I'm not even going to address your inane, judgmental, and completely incorrect assumptions any further.

Jerry, thanks for the link; I'm trying it out!

#11 All antenna's work with HDTV. What are you talking about? "(assuming you have an hd antenna)"???? I have one of those huge metal antenna's that probably were designed 50 years ago and it gets HD just fine.

#11 "but i hardly call that getting TV without paying for service." What do you call it??? Are you getting TV channels? Would you say you aren't getting TV? You are getting TV channels. I get around 6 of them myself and for many people that is plenty.

Kworld = Scam. Consider $10 extra plus Stamp, plus envelope, plus time in case you're gonna send your rebate in to Kworld. Have you ever seen a Kworld deal withouth a rebate?

You can only watch one channel at a time. Two if you have picture-in-picture. Three max if you have picture-in-picture and a dvr or vcr. Maybe four if you have a dvr that can record two channels at once and are watching picture-in-picture. If this isn't enough for you, you should go outside and take a walk every once in a while.

I bought a TV tuner from Kworld through newegg.com. The tuner included $25 rebate. But I never received the rebate even I did everything right. Kworld has a terrible reputation on their rebate.
