Update: It is now $379 - 10% off with coupon code C8MT7GZJ = $341 with free shipping.
Target has the LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188) for $379 - $7 off with this link (click first) = $372 with free shipping. Normally $400 if you can find it. Contains 3803 pieces, 8+ pivotal scene rooms, and 24 minifigures, droids, and the Dianoga trash compactor monster.
People spending approx $400 on crappy licensed plastic make me sad. Go feed a kid in africa, give a few bucks to your charity of choice. Heck, buy a ps3, 360, TV, ipad, 800 bags of skittles, 20 nice tasty steaks, or any number of things that might actually be even slightly worth the money you just spent.
Hey #2, why don't you go bore people elsewhere as this is a free market economy and I'll buy whatever I want. Besides, you're bringing me down! I believe in supporting the causes you mention, but is that really needed here if we are talking about purchasing Legos in the first place? LOL to you my friend!
Last post was directed at #3, apparently i'm so excited over this "crappy licensed plastic" that I can't type. Good deal regardless even though I already have this item.
drewl... I totally want this more that 20 steaks 800 bags of skittles and I already own a TV, PS3, et cetera... Life is short and if you can afford this and it will make you happy, just buy it. Don't listen to #3. Just because we get older does not mean with have stop loving the things that made us happy as kids and probably even now.
lets see, from what i know these things cost about this much ps3/360 160gb $200 tv ~32" $300 ipad 32gb $600 800 bags of skittles 14 oz $2400 20 nice steaks (home made) $170-500
If you are saying you can name more ways to spend money so can I, the average person probably spends this per month to keep up their lifestyle $130 per month on cell phone per phone, probably $360 for a 4 member 4 iphone family $150 per month on cable + internet + home phone $1000 per month interest payment on mortgage $200 per month interest payment on car $300 per month interest payment on their over used credit cards
if the average person wasn't drowning in debt having to spend over $1500 a month just to tread water, they wouldn't be jealous of someone freely spending $341 for legos.
Wow. you folks sure take your legos seriously around here! Buy what ever you can afford, and do so guilt free. I'm all for discretionary entertainment spending, it just boggles my mind how much 'value' is assigned to legos compared to some of the other possibilities out there. Maybe tablets or ps3's,,etc aren't your thing... but when I consider any of those and compare them to a bunch of molded plastic blocks... the value does not compute for me. If you find that level of value there, then knock yourselves out. And for the record I was talking about the vending machine size skittles dammit!
hey setrict -- yeah, i see what you are saying. it's not the Lego that counts here, regardless of price, it is the emotional response that is derived from something near and dear to our hearts as star wars collectors. as a star wars fan, i try to scoop up every deal that i can as with each piece i can reclaim a tiny bit of my childhood and childhood aspirations. i do not get the same value-added outcome from purchasing skittles, a ps3 (got one 2 years ago, used it about 15 min total), steaks, an ipad, or the like (thanks to bebimbap for the suggested list), hence, i won't buy them, but i do buy star wars items, whatever the type. so, my value system is likely different from yours based on the conversation we are having. if you boil it down to trading dollars for plastic, i am right there with you as Legos are extremely costly and i don't like filling the pockets of others for plastic, but toys are primarily made of it. even in the case of buying a new figure, i can't believe they charge what they do for them. but alas, Hasbro and other know that we are willing to pay the price for the pleasure derived from having the product. i don't like it either, but i'd probably pay the same if the product was made of other types of materials too. anyhow, this has been fun!
Obviously the FORCE is strong in some of you, and you realize the joy and sense of accomplishment that comes with working for hours, and finally finishing and displaying this Star Wars memorabilia. The rest of you have your own hobbies and interests that give you satisfaction, and you should not question the cost of something that brings you joy. You can't take it with you!
"Your powers are weak old man"
You know there is always gonna be a piece missing.

Man up! Buy this thing.
Sound the dork alert...
after using C8MT7GZJ it says the discount has already been applied. this does not work.

Legos were pretty darn expensive when I was a kid, so by the time you adjust for inflation this may not be that ridiculous.

How can you not derive an almost infinite amount of pleasure from high quality meat? Especially BEEF?!?
I'm sure another 34 trillion dollars will finally get Africa on it's feet #3.
Wow! This is almost worth the price of admission. Meow!
I can't fathom wanting to spend that much money on a Lego toy...
That said, I forwarded this to a friend of mine that *loves* Star Wars and I have no doubt he'll seriously consider getting one.
