Looks like a pretty good deal. RAM is light but usually it's a cheap-easy upgrade.
I know it's not a great gaming PC but this is kind of intriguing...
good price but this will eventually drop to the mid 200s. Even at CC store going out of business deals these price cannot be top.
Not worth it without a 6-cell battery.
There is no version with Bluetooth available so I don't know why this keeps getting advertised.
#5 If you have an extra 5 minutes, you can easily install internal bluetooth for about $25. But you are correct, it does not come with bluetooth.
I tried this one out at a frys. The keyboard seems a bit scrunched together. The HP Mini 1000 is much more comfortable but more $$$. I've also tried an MSI Wind which is better, but still a bit small. Does anyone know how the Asus EEE PC 1000HA stacks up on keyboard size?
eeepc keyboard sucks for touch typists but I am one-finger typist and am happy with my 900A.
#7, keyboards are pretty much a matter of taste, but IMO MSI Wind and HP have the best keyboards for touch, and the least cramped of the bunch, though obviously they are ALL more cramped than a decent Notebook keyboard. That's the compromise you make for the diminutive size of a Netbook.
As for the Lenovo above, the 3 cell non-upgradeable battery is the real
Knock Knock.
Who's there?
Bacon.
Bacon who?
for me. Lack of Bluetooth and a disappointing keyboard doesn't help either.
Check out pcworld (Dec 2008) Lenovo had better bench marks than most Netbooks. A six cell battery for this can be had for about $50 on ebay. Keyboard is fine for this size machine, want a small keyboard try typing on the Dell mini 9.
this is the S10e model, which has a slightly lower resolution than your run of the mill S10. I could be wrong on this, but I think that is the model that buy.com is selling.
Seems like a quality roll-up keyboard would solve the problem w/out taking up too much space in your bag.
if this 3 cell gives 2.5-3hrs it's good. my eee gets less than 3hrs with 6 cell. lenovo was my first choice.
s10e is slightly different then the s10..bacon's only a 10.1" rather than a 10.2" so the resolution is slightly off the usual 1024x600
Chiming in here as a new EEE PC 1000HA owner:
Keyboard: fine (I'm a touch typist)...remapped the right-shift and UP keys.
Battery: easily getting 5 hours on a 6-cell...not too far from 6 or 7 hours if I restricted use to document editing and browsing.
Screen: nice, bright display...reconfigured Firefox and Office to maximize screen real estate.
I suspect the dual-core Atoms are not far away...my instincts tell me there'll be a noticeable jump in price (which really defeats the whole netbook concept...but hey, we all want bigger drives, faster processors, etc.). So an EEE PC under $400 is a decent deal. But I'd lean toward the 160GB mechanical drive and 6-cell battery to be safe.
