more ram please. at least 1 Gb.
bullshit deal ben. it can be had better through lenovo's friends & family program:
Lenovo IdeaPad S10 (Black or White) - $331.55 Free Shipping
Copy and paste link
Lenovo.com/cpp
Passcode: familyandfriends
the fancier colors can be had for $10 more.
buy the 512MB version and put in one 2GB stick. It disables the on board 512MB chip, and maxes the laptop out. This is by far the most easiest to upgrade netbook on the market, and unlike MSI, this action will not void your warranty... since it doesn't require any invasive surgery.
If you want any sort of usability from one on these things get at least 1 GB of RAM.
I would have to say upgrading an Asus 90x or 1000x is easier there is one panel access to the memory, HDD, and the wireless card.
2GB of PC2-5300 DDR2 SODIMM RAM can be bought for $20.50 (i bought it from ENET), but you can find other vendors through pricewatch.com.
#1 and #4 recommend 1GB upgrades or more, but at the low end of 1GB, this is a poor value for your dollar. stick to buying the 512MB model, and putting the 2GB chip in. It is very easy to do, only 1 philips screw blocks your path.
#2, your passcode does not work
i just logged in and it worked just fine... copy and paste it, but make sure you don't copy an extra space at the end of the word...
does the blue one have bluetooth?
Lenovo is making a serious mistake in offering this model. The cost of DRAM is so, so cheap, that one with 512MG or 1 GB cost almost the same. There are many people who don't feel comfortable upgrading the DRAM themselves, so they may just pass this one.
No wonder Asus outsells the others by so much.
rajan, quit using foul language.
hey rajan, if you don't like ben's deals gtfo
Rajan: good tip on the friends & family thing. Worked for me.
The Dell mini 9 is very easy to upgrade also, although one needs to go a step further and remove two screws instead of one. With a 2Gb chip installed the system is much more responsive. I also turned off indexing and compression. Pretty sweet despite the quirky keyboard, which is the only downfall in my opinion. I really like the look and keyboard of the new HP (black) unit, but too quirky for the price. Maybe when the dual core atoms hit the shelves that might be worth investigating again.
I think if you don't mind the price and the fact that it has such a small hdd. I still think IMO that the asus, samsung, and acer are the leaders in the netbook market. They all have good speced machines for the price and features.
Upgrading the RAM on the MSI Wind (while a pain at 9 screws) does NOT void the warranty according to the email I received from MSI tech. support asking that very question.
512 is integrated into mb. not detected when upgrade to 2gb. 80gb? 3 cell or 6? no deal.
more ram and gb and better cell battery maybe I would consider this a deal. MSI have better deal than this
Thanks, #2. I might pick one up seems like a nice netbook.
Well with MSI wind you have to email them ore check to make sure you can do it I forget the actual details on it but you can just open it up and start adding things to it.
