#3, unless it displays the images directly onto the retina it shouldn't be called a retina display. Friggin' marketing making up their own definitions again.
My 19" TV is a retina display from more than 2 feet away.
Retina or no retina display, unless you have a b&w Kindle, you'll struggle reading it under direct sunlight.
