anyone have experience with Lexar rebates?
they are good but i think this one is a mistake. Make sure you check other photo dealers and see if the deal is the same. I remember one was $80 for like 2 days but they reduced it to $40. In the fine print they can do it.
got 3 for 3 back this past week, after about 3 weeks on exactly this rebate. I sent in an additional photocopy of everything with a hand-written note saying that I had copies of the full submission packet and that I had complied with every element of the rebate form, then signed and dated it.
That gave me no additional protections whatsoever, but does imply I'm not going to simply forget it, so it's just not worth their time to field calls from me. I rarely go for rebates at all, but I ended up getting money back on this deal, so it was worth the risk, imho.
Sending in rebate forms by certified mail, etc. is stupid and a waste of money. Like #3 said, all you need to do is keep copies. I've gotten about 95% of rebates on the first try, and the other 5% just took a quick follow-up email or two. I think only one place actually wanted to see the copies, and nobody ever asked for confirmation that the mail was sent or received.
I did this deal a few months back. Took about a month to get my rebate...but the check cleared!
Showing up as $89.95 now. Rats!
The price has been moving up and down on these all weekend. I would expect to see them back at a net of zero. Shipping is about 10 dollars the last I looked when these were zero cost. Anyone ever see free shipping at Anorama?
YOu might try to ferret out this deal at other photo retailers. I remember during the Kingston 4GB Free A/R deal a year or two ago you could find the deal on some retailers who weren't showing on the deal sites. Since the rebates were different, you could get in for more than one. I'd go for this if I weren't already set with the 4GB cards I got back then...
With these obscenely large rebates (usually anything above $25-50 at risk), I mail them at the post office with "delivery confirmation" in a padded envelope meeting specs. (For some reason the post office won't let you use delivery confirmation on a plain #10 envelope). Naturally, I have copies of everything I send, and I attach my delivery confirmation end to the copies and file them.
Now, I know I'm overspending by about $1.50 or so each submission. BUT - I have legal evidence that the package was delivered to their rebate house AND I have copies of all that was submitted. When I have that much money at risk and the rebate house claims they didn't receive it or it was missing something - I have an instantly faxable rebuttal - to them or just directly to the manufacturer. It's saved my ass a couple times already.
Also, by sending rebate submissions via a trackable method, I can look them up at USPS.com and jot down the time and date it was delivered to them. Sometimes just informing the rebate CSR of these details is enough for them to "correct" their records and get on with shipping out the money.
The stress savings alone is worth the $1.50 investment. Sometimes being too cheap bites you in the ass.
the post office is not the weak link in the rebate chain, it's the person that opens it. i've had no problem with lexar rebates
it's gone now
I ordered this card with another $35 item that listed free shipping. Total shipping for the order with the Lexar card was $.96. Of course, I later received notice that the Lexar card was back-ordered.
