I disagree. I like the idea of keeping all data on faster RW media that is more easily transferred, but I still like creating gold build backups that can be transferred more readily (via BR) to another system that may or may not be network capable at the time for transfer. Also, optical storage is more reliable for long term storage.
But if you have redundancy in both network and storage medium, then go for it. Depends on the critical nature of your data, the speed you need it back in production usage. and what redundancy you have built into your recovery model. And the amount of money you are willing to spend to have that recovery capability.
Just a thought.... what if your house burned down today. How critical is the data you may of lost, and how did you plan on mitigating that risk?
Blueray is so yesterday. Get the SSD and the blueray encoded files. Loads MUCH faster.. ha
