This is a dual band phone so I guess it's not really worthed to unlock it.
The main reason to unlock it would be to move to another GSM provider in the United States - something you'll probably want to do once you get to know the folks at AT&T.

AT&T service, that is the NO SERVICE AT ANYTIME people are a disaster.
Steve Jobs will want to live a long time because he will burn in hell for making people who buy iPhones go to AT&T.
For GSM, T-Mobile has the best in LA. I'm still on 1000 minutes, plus nights and weekends for $40 a month. Towers everywhere so you don't drop calls and 24 hour a day customer service.
That all said, getting through their stupid, stupid, stupid voicemail tree to a nice live person can drive you crazy. But, you can get a live person 24 hours a day. Keep yelling "Agent" "Agent" "Agent" "Agent" "Agent" "Agent" "Agent" "Agent" and the voicemail will give up and transfer you to an agent.
Service and price get them an "A+"
Voicemail is an "F-"
