Gets cheaper and cheaper... I paid $230 for mine. Great drive, BTW, not just for BluRay but for DVDs and CDs as well.

What until November. These or another brand will be on the Wal-Mart blitz for about $75.00 to $99.00. A prediction of course... but if I'm wrong, you can paint my toenails Black & Gold.

Today it says $179 OEM(deal above) and the retail is only $169. Last week I paid $162 for the retail. So for you waiting on the fence...Keep waiting it actually went up. Gonna have to wait till the next holiday sale.

#5, have you successfully backed up a Blu-ray disc? I read some time back that it is possible to rip a BR disc onto a hard drive but not onto a blank BR disc. Is that still true?

I have also used this drive - it's really great for data backups. I also did a 50gb DL disk as a test - and it worked great. Took a long time - but it was a good thing it came out ok first try - at $25/disk for 50gb DL discs (at the time), you don't want any coasters. Still, it's still far far more cost effective to back up your data to external HD's for now. I'm also still waiting for the drives to drop to the $100 range, and discs to the $2 range before jumping. Based on the recent price drops, looks like more are to come in the next 6mo.

Also watched blu-ray and HDDVD movies on this drive - they both looked and worked flawlessly. The PowerDVD software is constantly in a state of update flux and some movies required special patches - but that's PowerDVD's fault. Still, the need for HDDVD is pretty much gone/useless feature. Bye-bye HD betamax...

    Highly recommend.
