dd-wrt firmware is the most stable and feature-packed for this router.
Damnit Ben, because of you I have now more paperclips in my house than even the most hard core of paperclip affeciandos!
just make absolutely sure it's not a v7
Amazon has this for $40 with free shipping.
Just to be explicit: _dd-wrt micro_ will work on the wrt54g v5 and v6, although if you want to run dd-wrt you'd be better off visiting their web page and picking up a recommended router, which the v5 and v6 aren't. v7 evidently uses an Atheros chipset, and isn't supported at this point. v4 is good (but not for sale anymore).
If you want a wrt54-series router, get the linux version of this, the wrt54gl.
This router is underpowered anyway, and as the wrt folks say, has been 'neutered' starting with v5 anyway by reducing available ram and flash.
thx #5 #3 #1
