Staples.com has the basic but solid Linksys WRT54G 802.11g Wireless Router for $50 - $10 code 77994 [Exp 2/3] = $40, with free shipping if you add some paper clips. This is a tried and true router. [BizRate]

dd-wrt firmware is the most stable and feature-packed for this router.

Just to be explicit: _dd-wrt micro_ will work on the wrt54g v5 and v6, although if you want to run dd-wrt you'd be better off visiting their web page and picking up a recommended router, which the v5 and v6 aren't. v7 evidently uses an Atheros chipset, and isn't supported at this point. v4 is good (but not for sale anymore).
If you want a wrt54-series router, get the linux version of this, the wrt54gl.

This router is underpowered anyway, and as the wrt folks say, has been 'neutered' starting with v5 anyway by reducing available ram and flash.
