Buy.com has the basic but solid Linksys WRT54G 802.11g Wireless Router for $45 with free shipping. This is a tried and true router for those who don't want to fuss with X2 X3 MIMO N hype. [BizRate]

Anyone know if DD-WRT will work on this version?

#1 assuming it's v8 or above it will. Only v7 is incompatible with any third-party firmwares.

    Check out the source...
    DD-WRT Supported Devices - Linksys

I would assume they're shipping newer models, but I've been burned by this assumption before...

This is the G model, which is currently on version 1.1 and TOTALLY works with DD-WRT and Tomato firmware. I'm using this exact one now and it works great!

Best price on the net right now.

Scrap that last post. I have the WRT54GL model, not the WRT54G. I wouldn't take a chance with the WRT54G if you want to install a 3rd party firmware unless you know the exact version you are getting.

DD-WRT works very well on v1-3 and v4,5 and v6. This is from Experience. Very stable. Not tested v7 or v8 yet.

Didn't wireless G go out in the 1940's?

i have dd-wrt on a v6. very solid. it replaced a usr 5461 which needed a reboot every few days. the linksys has stayed on for a few weeks w/o any lag.

This really is the perfect router. I've got one for my main AP and another for as my xbox 360 adapter.
