Version 1: Larger, old style gray adapter with a black cap. Contains Ralink RT2770+RT2720 chipset.
Version 2: Smaller and all black. Newer single chip (Ralink RT3070) stays cool to the touch. Most people who order these recertified adapters now are receiving Version 2 adapters."
I ordered a few of these.
Many times on small wireless devices, the circuit board layout will include options for both an integrated and an external antenna. For $6 I'll be willing to break one apart to see if I can add an SMA connector for an external antenna - should solve any range problems.
