Frys has the Lite-On DH-4O1S Blu-Ray DVD-ROM Drive for $40 + shipping. Shipping is $8, or pick up in-store to avoid the shipping charge. It functions as a 12X DVD-ROM and 32X CD-ROM as well. SATA interface. [Compare]

How are the data discs with these? No bad parts on the discs ever? Or do you still run into coasters?

I can pick it up at my local Frys (LV NV), but the price is $65 - NOT $40

Hard to justify when it doesn't even DVDR/RW, though I suppose having more than one optical drive per system can be cost effective too.

I like the price, but I don't like Fry's. I'll wait until I can get a burner at this price.

#8 - you might wait a while for it.

I am waiting for a drive with the software (AnyDVD please) to play BDs included. And crippled/expiring software doesn't count.

Looks like it's $65 now, and they won't ship it. Mofos.

Unless you want to rip, BD-ROMS are not cost-effective with set-top players down around the $100 mark. To play a BD disc you will need $50 or so worth of software (the bundled SW, if the drive includes it, is typically crippled so you have to buy the premium version if you want to get 5.1 sound. So now you're around $100 unless you are a torrent sort of person -- and that route is a pain because you keep needing updates to the SW to play the newest discs, and that defeats whatever crack came with your D/L....

You are on crack. Nobody and I mean nobody, is paying $50 to play BD on a PC if all other requirements were already met.

It is very easy and cheap, just buy whatever your conscience can allow (considering they are blood sucking bassturds) and install what the internet provides to accommodate your playback ability/hardware features.

Beyond that, fvck 'em. If you paid for it then you have no reasonable, no realistic worries about them pursuing you to play it back. Just don't try to copy it though or they will want your first born, your bowling balls, and a sample of DNA till long after you die of old age.

Again, fvck 'em. Pay for content, but never bend over to their BS demands.

Seems like a rip-off to sell you a Bluray player without the software to play. It should not be shareware or cripple ware..bacon should work properly.
