Newegg has the Lite-On iHAS324-08 24x DVD+-R Burner for $30 - 10% off with coupon code BHD6THREE9 [Exp 6/3] = $27 shipped. Burns DVD+/-R discs at 24x, CD-R at 48x, DVD+RW at 8x, and reads DVD-ROM at 16x.
Spend the extra few dollar and get a better quality drive. My last LiteOn drive doesn't open unless I press the eject button 3 times. This started happening after a year of use.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest there isn't much if any difference in quality between the eject switch used in the various brands of optical drives. Components just randomly fail sometimes, a certain % whether used in a drive, a clock radio, etc.
1 vote for #1 - my liteon DVD burner get less product life than my other brands. My older Pioneer 8x burner is older but outlast the Liteon 16X.. Never want Liteon DVD burner again....
My last two Liteon dvd burners were big disappointments. With the first one, I have to reduce the burn speed down to 24x with CD-R without errors. Newegg replaced it without charge (and even crediting me more than the actual return shipping cost). It, too, exhibited the same problem. Liteon support launched into lengthy 'lecture' on why I needed to calibrate my system. Didn't have the heart to return to Newegg.
The last, last Liteon does not recognize some dvd movies, like "Dances with Wolves". Liteon was supposed to release a firmware to fix the problem, but they never did. Instead Liteon just discontinued the model.

My Liteon is still working strong for me after burning over 300+ discs the last 4 years.
