ZipZoomFly has the Lite-On iHOS104-06 4X Blu-ray Drive for $65 - $15 rebate [Exp 11/30] = $50 with free shipping. Reads DVD discs at 8x, CDs at 32x, and Blu-ray discs at 4x. Sports a 2MB buffer and a SATA interface.
Having to buy the software sucks. Just goes to show that the DMCA and DRM in general is just a bunch of words made up to charge extra or take away existing rights.
Yeah, the price is great but standalone BR players were recently on sale for $150. So if you have already home theater system, standalone BR player may be better choice for you. Somehow I can't imaging looking at high-def movie on a computer screen that's about 1.5ft in the front of me.
Blue Ray seems like a waste. With a good PC hooked up to a nice HD TV u can get some serious quality. Thats we do and it seems like upgrading to a blue ray player would be silly. But, thats just us.
I got the 104-08 from newegg during BF, I will be hooking it up to my HTPC, so I won't be 1.5 ft from the computer screen, but a good 6-8 feet from my 42" HDTV.
I did the same #7, it was only $50 with free shipping... no rebate junk. Mine is hooked up to a 7' screen (projector) so it should work fine for that, no squinting needed!
is this blu ray any good? what's the difference between 4x and 8x blu ray roms? 8x is much expensive than 4x.. I might consider getting one for my htpc build.
too bad you'll have to get a good system to run blu ray well and highest settings
That, and you'll have to buy separate software if you want more than stereo sound.
On the other hand, it would be dumb to build a new system without blu ray capability at this price.
