oh, great. Another junk power supply on sale.
This one has a really old 5v heavy design, with only 16 amps of 12v power available. That is a paltry 192watts.
To compare, the Antec Earthwatts 380watt power supply has 324wats of 12v power.
In modern computers, the 12v rail powers just about all the power hungry components. The CPU, GPU, motherboard, etc...
So, if a power supply has little 12v power available, it's essentially useless. You'd be better off with the Antec Earthwatts 380watt supply than this one, both because of the far higher amount of 12v power available, and the much higher quality components used.
Also, something else to keep in mind, it's quite unlikely that this power supply is even able to put out 16amps on the 12v rail. Unfortunately, many of the lower quality power supplies on the market are rated for specs that they cannot actually produce.
A better quality power supply is bound to go on sale soon, April has been slow so far for power supply deals. In previous months, good quality power supplies like the OCZ StealthXStream 500watt have been on sale for $15-$20 on newegg.
Before those sales, the Antec Earthwatts PSU's were on sale for similar prices.
This might be good for an old ATX 1.x computer such as an Athlon XP or Pentium 4 system and older, but for anything today definitely do not buy it. I wouldn't even trust it as a test power supply for any modern computer.
A Pentium 4 system also used more 12V current then preceeding systems. Athlon XP, some used more 12V current, some more 5V.
Either way, this PSU is incapable of supporting any of these long term, even sitting on a bench powering NOTHING AT ALL it will probably fail prematurely from the fan or capacitors.
If you try to get 480W out, the transistors will pop right away. It can't even produce enough power for a steaming pile of poo.
If it were a lot heavier it would make a decent doorstop, pity they didn't fill it with concrete instead of underspec 20 cent components.
Personally,I wouldn't use this for anything more than a replacement for a P3 (or equivalent) system's power supply.
But hey, if you need a cigarette lighter built into your computer, this might just do the trick!!
It will make an elegant door stop for those with baconthemed decor.
Wow thanks for the good reviews/information. How refreshing.
Since it is old design - it should be good for PII system....
logisys = logitech+linksys? ))))
just got to ask yourself if you feel lucky and if your system is worth more than 16 bucks.
#3 right #2, Not really sure were youre going with your tar pit of logic. Dave c helps people, CW trolls for new little "friends".
The PSU is junk. Geeks.com has a $15 Enchance PSU which has 500W output and dual +12V rails. The only thing missing is a 4 pin 12V CPU connector. It only works if the motherboard has an 8 pin connector.
Is mwave.com trustworthy? Their PNY 8GB drive "enhanced for windows readyboost" (recently promoted here) stated no such thing on the packaging and my Vista OS says its performance is inadequate for readyboost.
#12: they seem to be rated pretty highly on resellerratings.com: http://bensbargains.net
you could try contacting their customer support and see if they'll take that flash drive back.
