my god... quality is probably cheap as hell, too.
But it's 480W it HAS to be good!
yeah, looking at the specs this is just another cheap junk power supply. Note that it has no PCI-E connectors, only 1 SATA connector, and a 12V rail with only 16amps. Basically; do not buy this power supply.
If you really want a cheap power supply that won't destroy your computer, watch for the Ultra V-Series 500watt power supply to go on sale for free AR again at frys.com. I've gotten a few of these, and the rebate checks have always come in promptly. Also, if you look up reviews, you'll see that JonnyGuru said that the Ultra V-series power supplies were decent budget power supplies, and he currently is running one in his wife's computer. LegitReveiws.com did a review of the 500 watt V-Series, asking "how good can a free after rebate power supply be?". They bought one of the FAR 500watt V-Series from Frys, and tested it out. Surprisingly, they found that it was able to run a high-end power hungry gaming rig without a problem. It's a good power supply, and definitely superior to other cheap power supplies.
As compared to this Logisys power supply, you can see how much better it is. It has a PCI-E connector, SATA connectors, and it's 12v rail has 28amps, almost double the Logisys power supply.
Don't mistake this brand as "Logitech" who usually makes good quality stuff.
Sata ready for when sata drives finally come out? Future proof your pc today! Power up now, with amperage to run the power hungry socket 370 cpus of tomorrow!
I'm guessing the V-Series FAR deal won't happen again. After seeing the review where the 500w V-Series PSU powered a quad core Intel CPU and an 8800GTX graphics card, the rebate deals have mysteriously disappeared, and their value on Ebay has jumped a bit.
#6: hmm, maybe everyone should have listened to me back when those were on sale and I was pushing them mercilessly.
oh well, I certainly didn't miss out.
listen to the wiz, he is very knowledgeable. no sarcasm intended.
=)
Yeah, but he promotes TigerDirect, which instantly hurts his credibility. Honor and honesty aren't something for which TigerDirect is known. TOO MANY people have been lied to, cheated and deceived by TigerDirect.
That they've "cleaned up" their act in terms of Ultra rebates doesn't mean that they now believe in integrity. They might have just made a business decision that it's too easy for bad internet reports to spread for them to continue to **** on so many people.
Trusting TigerDirect isn't something that comes easy to a lot of people.
ad hominem...just because he "promotes TigerDirect"
Logitech + Linksys = Logisys
#9: I just promote the best prices, wherever they are. I've done a ton of orders with TigerDirect, and they've never given me a problem, from rebates to customer support. So, I'd say they've done a pretty good job of cleaning up their act. If you don't like them, feel free to boycott them.
#12, It's not a matter of not liking them...
My last TD rebates were back in 2003. They outright lied to me on several occasions and tried like mad to get out of paying out the rebate checks - particularly the big ones. While I got them in the end (over five months later!) I had to fight for them, and that was not a pleasant experience.
It might not even be TD's fault - it might be the rebate house or the manufacturer - but I hold TD responsible, and so, apparently, do the courts.
Bottom line: Geeks have long memories, and a bad rep takes YEARS to go away.
Like I said, I've done a lot of orders with tigerdirect, and they've never given me a problem with the rebates, even the big ones. Just to prove it, I've decided to post my entire, unedited rebate history up here, with all the links to rebate tracking information, for your viewing pleasure. here you go(spread out over 2 posts due to post length limit):
things you will notice:
I missed the AMD 3300+ rebate becuase I lost the original UPC. Same goes for the All-in-one printer.
A couple of the rebates were printed out after the send-in date, and, naturally, sent in after the due date, however, they were all excepted except for the $1.99 CD case rebate.
I accidentally signed up for the $25 CA ISS 2007 rebate a couple times online, so it's on there more than once. The correct one is progressing fine.
All the rest of the rebates have either been paid(and I have double checked this against the checks I have gotten), or are recent and are going to be paid soon.

"Invalid Tracking Number, please try again."
uh... I tried again...
No Compwiz, you continually ignore the other factor which is whether they last more than a few hours (when they work at all) powering the loads described.
On JonnyGuru's review he wrote something akin to "I wouldn't kick you while you're down". He doesn't write that on other reviews, he is basically admitting that even though he is an employee of Ultra (did you GET that??) he can't fully endorse this PSU, recognizes it is a compromise. He was put in a difficult position to be sure, and I think if he could he would get the problems fixed but some things take time, and a higher manufacturing budget -> contract price than allowed on a unit that sometimes sells for FAR.
Are you really going to buy a FAR compromise PSU to power hundreds of dollars worth of system? Foolish.
It's pretty easy to conveniently ignore all the facts isn't it? Like that many people had theirs fail already, or that the capacitors in them are known bad brands as listed on forums dedicated to such endeavors like badcaps.net. Speaking of caps, others have noticed the unusually low capacitance in this PSU, also a cost-cutting measure. Isn't it convenient how a certain review left out the ripple measurements on this PSU but then tries to use that ripple measurement to knock some other PSU? Ever wonder why? If you know anything at all about SMPS, which you obviously don't Compwiz, you know that given similar magnetics and frequency, not even considering the budget-constrained choices in the Ultra V-, the ripple is NECESSARILY higher with the cheap cap choices made. Why leave out this information? Simple, it's like Compwiz is doing, conveniently failing to mention the negatives, biasing and omitting information to suit a goal.
We don't want to consider the facts though, right? Let's just conveniently forget and omit fact after fact and only mention misle... [Truncated]
you can say this, but can you back it up? I've been running my old 3ghz P4 computer for a few months now on a 400watt V-series. Don't you think it's strange that this failure after running for a few hours is never reported in reviews?
what he's saying with that statement, is that if you can't afford a better power supply and get a cheap Ultra V-Series, he wouldn't tell you that they should switch it right ... [Truncated]
