Newegg has the refurbished Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX Wireless Laser Mouse for $31 with free shipping. Features the new Logitech Darkfield Laser Tracking technology which claims to work on glass and uneven surfaces. Includes Logitech Unifying receiver, 2 AA batteries, and carrying pouch.
FYI, I bought this a week ago, but they did not sent a USB receiver. They even denied accepting return or refund since it is a refurbished mouse. Be aware!
Great tracking, but Logitech still makes the worst software known to man. At least once a week my mouse will start scrolling at about 10% speed, requiring massive spinning just to go halfway down the page. You have to UNPLUG the USB adapter and plug it back in to make it work.
Also, this bad boy goes through high quality NiMH rechargables in five days and nice Energizer/Duracells in two weeks. Why they didn't make this expensive mouse a cradle/recharger with built-in battery, I don't know?
These are great. I think you may have got a lemon mcnabney. I rarely replace the batteries. Maybe every 6-8 weeks with everyday use. I can't even remember the last time I replaced them and I use regular Kirkland (costco) batteries nothing special. No tracking problems here either. The usb adapter is very small and I am thinking sholling is right about blueice. The adapter is stored inside the mouse. As a laptop mouse there is no better, but for desktop use i'd recommend a little larger mouse for comfort.
I use the mouse on my laptop at work and use rechargeable batteries and I have to recharge them every 2-3 months, so if you are only getting a week on them something isn't right.
This would be the perfect mouse if the scroll wheel also acted as a middle button. Don't know why they switched from having the button behind the wheel change the scrolling characteristics. Without a middle button, I just can't use it for gaming on my laptop.
These are great mice for laptops.

Blueice did you look inside the battery compartment? That's where it's stored when it ships.
I use this mouse about 8-10 hours a day and swap in fresh Enloops every 4-6 weeks. I also have zero tracking problems with it.
