There is something conceptually wrong with remote controls that cost more than the components they're supposed to control, being offered as deals to ghetto dogs. For that much you can get an audio receiver or blu-ray player or something. Amazon lately has had good deals on lower-end refurb Harmony remotes around $30, that makes sense.

I think the posts from the last time this showed up on here should just be reposted. Basically, the 1000 is regarded as crap; much better off with the 1100 if you must have the full touch screen. Else, the One is the best if you don't require RF, the 8900 being the best if you do. As #2 pointed out, you can get cheaper models that will do 90% of the same things as these higher end models, just less pretty looking while doing it. The 550 is $40 on Amazon, the 570 being around 45 -- both extremely capable remotes just missing the flash of the others I mentioned.

#1, read some reviews first. There is a reason why there are a bunch of 1000s available refurbushed. This is a dog. Buggy from day one, reportedly Logitech has yet to get the firmware right and has given up trying on this model. Locks up, too narrow IR beam, etc.Check out the 1100 instead, which is the replacement.

I'm in the market for something like this, but I've read enough to scare me off. Try a Pronto, or get a Logitech One or 1100, but let this thing die quietly.

#4. I concur. My brother had one and the IR died after the first month of use. Really nice unit when it works. Maybe that fixed the short comings in the refurbushment process?

It really doesn't look very convenient or comfortable to use.

I had a Sony remote that's shaped like this once. What I found out was that couch potatoes like me like to channel surf with the remote in one hand. Smile You really can't do that when the remote is wide and big like these.
