Sir, you're awesome I agree with you.
while it will look cool in your home theater, I'm not sure how practical the size is when laying on the couch.
I've always wondered if there's a program I can run on my tablet PC and use that interface as a universal remote. If it has an infrared port, I'm guessing it should work?
#4, even if there was such a program it probably won't work. The IR signal from the tablet PC probably won't be powerful enough to be able to use from any reasonable distance.
I doubt that the IR transmitter would need to be strong. There are cheap TV remote control wrist watches that do just fine commanding TVs on the other side of a big room.
I own 2 of these. Great hardware but the programming software from Logitech absolutely sucks. It is web-based, and is absolutely loaded with bugs. Current version 7.5 has many more problems than prior version, and many people are experiencing crashes, hangs, and other problems. Check out the Logitech forum before buying this turkey.
Reviews are overwhelmingly negative. Funny thing is, it uses the same shitty web-based programming software the highly regarded Harmony 880 uses. Looks like the firmware for this one is much worse than the 880's. One example: you're limited to 9 keys per screen, so good luck trying to do a channel selection soft-keyboard... Even if it weren't buggy and slow it would still suck.
Yes, the software takes forever to configure. You can quickly get your devices and activities set up, like in 10 minutes. Tweaking it to get it just like you want will take an additional 8 hours through their tedious interface.
It's so often that products like these have the crappiest software. I think that's why the Ipod took off. The hardware is not the greatest but still pretty good. What they did do right was make the hardware mostly work bug free. Of course, there are real annoyances about itunes like how it takes over file associations without asking but the average humanoid likes that.
Finally an iPod killer!
good to know this thing sucks, I was gonna get one. thanks.
Man I have the 880 and I don't have any problems with programming it using their software. Tweaking everything took a little time but once I was finished it was great. No more calls from my wife asking how to get the DVD's to play. Now this one looks a little bigger but I think that there are more features. If I didn't already have the 880 I would consider this.
